Handmade by the musicians themselves from plastic tubes, funnels, metal and reused parts. Inside almost every one of them there is a kazoo — that is what gives them a voice. Real instruments play alongside, and the mix is the sound of Banda Plástica.
THE SECRET
IT ALL STARTS
WITH THE KAZOO
The kazoo is a small membrane instrument. The musician sings or hums into it, the membrane vibrates and the voice takes on that unmistakable buzz. It is the heart of every plastic instrument in the band: each plastic tuba, trombone or clarinet is, at bottom, a kazoo in a different outfit.

Sing
The sound starts with the player's voice, not their breath.

Buzz
The kazoo's membrane vibrates and the voice picks up its buzz.

Play
The plastic tube and funnel shape the sound of each instrument.
TROMBONES
White tubes, a colourful bell and a kazoo in the mouthpiece. They look like trombones; they sound like Banda Plástica.
TUBAS
A coiled tube with a funnel for a bell. Here too the sound starts in the kazoo, with the player's own voice.
CLARINETS
Colourful striped tubes with a hidden kazoo. You don't blow them like a clarinet — you play them by singing.
THE REAL ONES
Not everything is plastic: accordion, trumpet, saxophone, bass drum, cymbals and snare are real instruments. They lay the ground where the plastic ones shine.
